Sanford Unveils Inspiring New Public Art Sculpture Walk by Artists Alex and Greg Mendez

The City of Sanford is proud to announce the debut of a stunning new public art installation: the Sanford Sculpture Walk, now on display in the heart of downtown Sanford. This vibrant and thought-provoking outdoor exhibit features 10 original sculptures created by renowned artists Alex Mendez and Greg Mendez, marking a dynamic collaboration that celebrates creativity, community, and the power of public art.
Running along a scenic path through the beauty of historic downtown Sanford as the backdrop, the Sculpture Walk invites locals and visitors alike to explore the city in a new light. Each sculpture tells its own story, reflecting themes of identity, connection, imagination, and transformation. Together, the works form a cohesive narrative that honors Sanford’s evolving cultural spirit.
“Public art has the power to spark conversations, inspire curiosity, and bring people together,” said Virginia Poe, City of Sanford Public Art Commission Chairman. “This walk is about more than just viewing art—it’s about experiencing it, interacting with it, and letting it reshape the way we see our surroundings.”
“We wanted each piece to feel like a moment of discovery,” added Greg Mendez. “Whether you're a lifelong resident or a first-time visitor, the Sculpture Walk invites you to slow down, look closer, and see the city with fresh eyes.”
This project was commissioned by the Sanford Public Art Commission as part of an ongoing initiative to make art more accessible and visible in the community. By bringing high-quality, contemporary sculpture into public spaces, the city aims to foster a deeper appreciation for the arts and create meaningful shared experiences.
The Sanford Sculpture Walk is free and open to the public year-round.
