FAIRWINDS Credit Union’s Freedom Builder Account been certified as meeting the Bank On National Account Standards. The Freedom Builder Account has been certified by Bank On for meeting its National Account Standards as a low-cost, low-fee account. The FAIRWINDS Freedom Builder Account offers:
No minimum balance requirement
No overdraft or insufficient funds fees
No monthly service charge for members under age 25
Access to pay bills and make purchases
“We’re proud that the Freedom Builder Account has been certified by Bank On,” said Dianne Owen, Chief Member Officer for FAIRWINDS. “As part of our Freedom Collection of checking accounts, the Freedom Builder account provides an affordable, practical solution for individuals seeking financial security and control over their money.”
The CFE Fund leads the national Bank On movement, supporting one hundred local coalitions working to connect underserved and unbanked individuals and families to the financial mainstream through partnerships between governments, financial institutions, and community organizations.
According to an FDIC 2023 survey, approximately 5.6 million U.S. households remain unbanked, often relying on costly alternative financial services. By offering a certified account that meets national standards, FAIRWINDS is able to provide more individuals with access to safe and affordable banking.
“Credit unions were built on the philosophy of people-helping-people,” said Owen. “This certification is another way for FAIRWINDS to help individuals who are seeking financial stability while being their guide on the journey to achieving financial freedom.”
