Seminole County has issued a mandatory Burn Ban, effective April 17, 2025. The ban applies countywide and prohibits the ignition and burning of open fires due to ongoing drought conditions.

Under Seminole County Code Section 85.24, Burn Bans are automatically enacted when the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) reaches or exceeds 500 with no measurable rainfall in the forecast.
The Burn Ban is a precautionary measure to reduce the risk of wildfires and protect life, property, and natural resources across the County.

What is Prohibited
All outdoor burning that is not permitted by the Florida Forest Service is prohibited, including:
• Bonfires
• Campfires
• Burning of vegetative (yard) debris

What is Allowed
• Above-ground charcoal, gas, and electric grills (charcoal must be fully extinguished after use)
• Barrel-style barbecue smokers
Residents are urged to use extra caution when grilling, especially near wooded areas or dry vegetation.

Duration of Burn Ban
The Burn Ban will remain in effect until the drought index remains below 500 for seven consecutive days or until further notice.

Penalties
Violations of the Burn Ban are punishable by up to 60 days in jail, a $500 fine, or both.
